I ordered these because the brush that I’ve used to baste meat was missing.. I suspect it was accidentally thrown away. The one I had was about 3 inches high with lots of thin bristles. I wasn’t sure how well these would work for basting because the new brush has shorter, thicker bristles whereas my old one had many thin strands. It is quite a bit different from what I had but no just as effective.Last night I used the 10” brush to baste a ham. The shorter bristles had no trouble holding on to the juices from the meat. It was much more effective than I thought it would be and I’m glad that I ordered them. The longer length of the 10 inch brush made what was normally a little difficult for me easier.I say this because I am rely on a wheelchair. If you have never tried to lift a heavy pan from the oven from a seated position, I can tell you from experience it is quite a bit more difficult then doing so from a standing position. This is especially true when I’m making something heavy like the ham I prepared for my family yesterday.Having to reach over the oven door is the biggest hurdle. Even with something lightweight it can be awkward. It becomes much more difficult to reach over the door, lift the food out and sit it on top of the stove which is higher than the seated position of the wheelchair. I am not quite sure if I explained that very well but I hope you get the picture. The ten inch brush enabled me to open the oven door, pull the rack out a little bit and reach into the pan where the juices were and baste my ham without having to completely remove it from the oven. Between my seated position and the weight of the hand, I would’ve had to get someone to lift it out for me each time. Using the longer brush made it so I didn’t have to bother someone else as often as I would have otherwise. ,The brushes are also very easy to clean. I washed them in the sink before using the 10” brush and put it in the top rack of my dishwasher when cleaning up after everyone was finished. The pastry brushes were very sturdy and seemed to be made well. I liked the pretty pesto colors of the pink and blue and ugly enough. It made me think of gender reveal items. I am 60 years old so my baby making days have been gone for a long long time, but I could picture handing my mother one of these as a way of telling her what sex one of my children was and I know she would’ve known that that was what I was trying to do. All in all I would recommend these brushes and I’m glad that I ordered them.
